Lisa's Musings and Perusings

It’s funny actually

I think I’ve become addicted to tumblr. (not complaining of course) For me, Facebook (or as I dub failbook) is full of people who drive me crazy. I barely post on there anymore, but, unlike MySpace, I can’t just get rid of it. Unfortunately, it is, literally, my social network. Everyone I know is on there and if I get rid of it, well then I get rid of my contact with them. Although, it wouldn’t be a completely bad thing…would it?

I must have been something of a bother on Facebook. I was constantly posting things that interest me. Apparently, not interesting for most of those on my friends list. So I figured what’s the point of sharing, if it’s not mutually interesting. Besides which, I ranted a few times, which netted me some negative feedback by people whom I thought knew me better. I digress. Maybe I’ll share my rant (which btw I had to edit down to the limit of characters Facebook gave you prior to their many updates). So I’ll leave Facebook as the place to whine about your life, force feed pictures of your kids down my throat, bitch about your significant other, post nothing interesting or thought provoking, but a million requests to send shit via FarmVille or whatever-ville your all playing now! I tried.

I even tried Google+. Google is lonely and boring. I know no one and nothing seems interesting. What am I missing? I thought google was the place to be. I thought it would kill Facebook! (hehehe, yes, let’s kill Facebook)

MySpace failed. I migrated my “crap” to Facebook. And thus have no use for MySpace. Sorry, I’ve contributed to your failure. But it’s like being the last one in an abandoned town. No one around, nothing going on. There’s no incentive. And, recently, I’ve become of the mindset where I’d rather not have all these social networks (eventhough I don’t see much social) that have any bits of my personal information on them floating around the Internet.

On the flip side, I am very fond of twitter now. And I don’t care if I don’t have that many followers! There’s something freeing about twitter. I can link and post. And I don’t have to worry about nagging adult types posting on my posts or liking everything I post…it gets old really fast. But twitter is fast. It’s helped to learn to be to the point (given the limit of characters). Especially, when I have the tendency to ramble on or just not get to the point.

So Facebook is like a miserable family reunion you want out of but can’t get out of. Twitter is sharing, with not so much caring (unless you post and tag about being pro abortion, then you get hated). Google is, well, hopefully developing, but no one I know is on it. And tumblr, ah tumblr, how I do love thee. This and stumbleupon are my favorites places to go and peruse. But tumblr is more than perusing. It’s sharing WITH caring? I can post, tag, and if people like they like, if not the can scroll on by. Tumblr is easy on the eyes. White is so clinical, it’s harsh, and frankly boring. That’s part of what I liked about MySpace, you could customize. I find tumblr as a good outlet to post whatever and it makes me happy.

I know others would disagree. I’ve seen some others’ posts and seen arguments arise out of the topic. While debate is healthy, some complain that others go looking to start trouble and go “trolling”. They are a microcosm of society, there will always be those who are born with the need to be detrimental to others.
